Sweet apple orchards
Cinnamon spice flooded dreams
Wake me up, autumn!
My love of fall was the inspiration for my poem! I adore the changing colors of nature, the cool temperatures and the delicious seasonal tastes. When I take a deep breath of crisp autumn air, I am invigorated and reminded of the wonderful joy that autumn brings. I enjoy apple picking with my family, getting lost in a corn maze and finding the perfect pumpkin for our front porch! After a long hike in the beautiful woods, it feels so good to get cozy by a warm fire and sip on a spiced cider. The four seasons make New York a fantastic place to live. Every time of year has something new and special to offer, but nothing makes me come alive quite like fall!
The reason why I chose this haiku is for the nostalgic memories and feeling it invoked in me. When I was a child, my grandmother would bake, and I remember the smell of sweet apples and cinnamon in the air on a rainy autumn evening.
In my interpretation, I drew an earth mother, a goddess grown and nurtured by the trees. The earth mother awakens in fall and represent the changing season before winter moves in and puts the goddess to rest yet again.
I wanted to capture the feeling of a dream, to spark something within your own imagination and creativeness. I wanted this piece to be surreal and serene, drawing you in, all of which was inspired in me by this beautiful haiku.
