Description

hard concrete, cold day
gingerly I step over
sweet dreams brave flower

I came to this haiku when my husband and I had gone downtown to enjoy dinner. We were headed to Daniel Jack's to listen to piano music and a nice meal. It was a cold, wet day, sometime in November, and I happened to see a thistle growing out of the concrete. It was a small flower and it looked so resilient.

I do not have any experience with haiku, but I have been writing short stories since I was a child. Poetry and short stories were given as gifts to my parents, something they encouraged of me. Reflecting now, my favorite was one I wrote to them as a senior while attending SU. It was a story in which one reflects or yourself and your ego's, as you go through life. A story I created to pass down my memories.
