Our 2025 Valentine's Day card was created by Maria Masek, a native of Ohio studying at Syracuse University for Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration (Class of 2028). Maria envisioned and developed this character as a wedding planner, then signed her up for duty on this card, pairing her with a haiku by Ana Morley:
Rise Syracuse now!
And lift each other up high.
Love calls us to thrive.
Morley, of Fayetteville, also had a haiku featured in the 2025 poster series.
To learn more about the development of Masek's character, view a video about it (2 min.) on our YouTube channel.

Toni Toland first allowed us use of this card as a handout for a 2013 workshop on love-themed haiku. The text box at the bottom of the card is for writing a haiku. Toni is a retired advertising design professor from Syracuse University. She first helped us in 2006, when she illustrated a poem for that year's poster series. That Native American themed poster turned out to be one of our most popular posters, and hopefully the same can be said for her Valentine!

Poet Marilyn Shelton has seen several of her haiku inspire posters, but in this case we applied her work to a note card. The graphic ornament and typesetting is by Toni Toland, retired from teaching advertising design at Syracuse University.
Thanks to SU's recruitment of Chinese students, Syracuse has come to be known by the Chinese as "Snow City." So it seems fitting that one of our Chinese interns, Qianyi Wang, would set the type for the Chinese version of our snowflake card.

We offer this card thanks to Jamie Santos, a tattoo artist and active member of the Syracuse art scene. When Jamie reached out to us, we suggested she browse our archive of haiku, and pick out a couple to illustrate as note cards. Jamie's vertical text panels also lend themselves to Chinese, so we created Chinese versions, with help from our Chinese intern, Tong Jin.

voluptuous silky blooms
