As a medical student, an important part of learning how to treat patients is learning how to listen to them. To help bring people comfort and healing, I am learning how to listen to their stories, not just their heartbeats. I chose Nancy’s poem for how it invited me to pause and listen with Syracuse.

The theme of “quarters” brought to my mind the keen differences in Syracuse’s seasons versus the historical buildings that stay the same through it all. My goal was to juxtapose those ideas with this poster, putting firm, photographed brick alongside fleeting, painted nature scenes of Central New York.
