I particularly enjoy the challenge of haiku structure, and the revision process until I find the perfect words and syllable count for each line.

I chose to write my Columbus Bakery haiku after researching the bakery online. The old-world marketplace environment was very evident in the photos and reviews.

When I visited the bakery, I was greeted by the aroma of freshly-baked Italian loaves, divided into two distinct types, hard and soft crust, each ready to go, wrapped in crisp white bakery bags. I selected two soft-crusted loaves and took them home to hollow out for delicious deli subs and sliced garlic bread.

My haiku represents a combination of my love of nature, Finger Lakes wine and the magnificent variety of apples grown in the Upstate area. As an avid cook and baker, I enjoy pairing the perfect wine with each gourmet meal I prepare to share with friends. Each meal culminates with a delicious dessert, often incorporating apples at the peak of their season.

Yet I appreciate that each new crop of both grapes and apples begins in springtime all around this region. The vines and trees in bloom are synonymous with planting flowers around my home. Illustrated poetry captures and shares natural beauty at any time of the year.
