    Psychedelic Soul

I wrote this haiku several summertimes ago when the Jazz Festival was still downtown.

It reminded me of the colorfulness of Jimi Hendrix, the slickness of Miles Davis, and the straight up coolness blend of both of their musical personalities.

It also instilled in me the importance of writing poetry, perhaps starting with three lines or even three words, and how meaningful the arts are for our communities

Autumn is my favorite season, so I wanted the haiku to reflect that. Central New York is very colorful. I wrote this haiku while traveling the Finger Lakes area when the trees were in full bloom. The oranges, reds, and browns were robust.

I felt honored to be selected. A lot of people submit their haiku and your chances of being selected are one in that many, so it's also exciting to be a part of that group.

The students at SU always do a great job with their illustrations and I'm looking forward to seeing the end results.
