I like crows. They have always been one of my favorite animals. They are beautiful and have a lot of mythology associated with them. They are also very smart and very indicative of Syracuse.

I wanted my illustration to be dreamy and a little distorted. Because the haiku finishes, “While I toss and turn,” I pictured someone sleeping, with the storm outside disturbing them. Recently I have been working in a flat, graphic style, but here I wanted depth and shadows because I felt it would work better with this dreamy haiku, more subtle colors and not anything stark.
